Large resale platforms operate at scale without meaningful curation. Refined operates with intention. Each piece is evaluated through a lifecycle lens informed by decades of hands-on experience across the luxury industry.

We do not aim to offer everything. We offer only what meets our standards, and then prepare those items thoughtfully for their next chapter.

Why are collections released in limited numbers?

Exceptional pieces take time to source and prepare properly.

Each Refined Collection represents a considered body of work that has been carefully evaluated prior to release. Limiting collections allows us to maintain that standard without compromise.

When a collection is complete, it closes. We reopen only when the next is ready.

There is no fixed schedule.

Collections are released only when a cohesive group of pieces has been thoroughly evaluated and prepared. We do not release inventory to meet a calendar.

Refined focuses on exceptional pieces already in circulation; bags distinguished by their design, craftsmanship, and enduring relevance.

What preparation does a Refined piece receive before release?

Every Refined piece receives comprehensive evaluation, cleaning, conditioning, and preventative maintenance before release.

Additional preparation is performed as needed to ensure longevity while preserving the item's original spirit and design integrity. This may include:

  • Pigment application
  • Hardware restoration
  • Lining repair or replacement 
  • Reshaping

Because we begin with exceptional candidates, our approach focuses on thoughtful preparation rather than extensive intervention.

What is pigment balancing or color restoration?

During manufacturing, most leathers have pigments applied to create an even, consistent color. Over time, exposure to light, environmental factors, and handling can affect color balance. Where appropriate, we apply tannery-grade pigments, minimally and only where needed, to restore depth and consistency.

In the secondary market, terms like repainting, refinishing, and redyeing are often used interchangeably, which can create confusion and bring to mind something very different from what we offer through Refined and Leather Surgeons.

Our approach is controlled, material-appropriate, and preservation-focused.

Does preparation affect a bag’s value?

Preparation, when performed thoughtfully and appropriately, is intended to support a bag’s long-term value—not diminish it.

Our approach prioritizes preservation, using minimal intervention and material-appropriate techniques developed through decades of industry experience.

Just as you would expect a luxury car to be properly serviced before sale, thoughtful preparation is part of responsible stewardship.

No. 

Due to the limited nature of each collection, pieces are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. We do not place holds or reservations.

Do you accept returns?

All sales are final due to the limited nature of each collection. We encourage clients to review all photos, condition notes, and listing details carefully prior to purchase.

What happens if a piece is damaged during shipping?

In the unlikely event that a piece is damaged during shipping, please contact us promptly and provide detailed photos of both the item and its packaging.

We recommend retaining all original packaging and documenting the unboxing process if the package appears damaged upon arrival.

If appropriate, we will arrange for the piece to be returned to our studio for evaluation and repair.

No. 

Due to the limited nature of each collection, exchanges are not available.

How should I care for my Refined piece?

We recommend thoughtful use, proper storage, and minimizing exposure to light, moisture, and friction.

For long-term care, professional cleaning and conditioning every one to two years is ideal, depending on use.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Yes.

As an extension of Leather Surgeons, Refined clients have access to the same services and expertise for ongoing care and preservation. Our goal is to be a long-term partner throughout each piece’s lifecycle, from purchase to preservation and beyond.

Future care and restoration services are available through Leather Surgeons and are quoted based on the specific needs of each piece.
